Installation Note 31316: The license renewal tool fails to update licenses on SAS® 9.2 installations for client users (Admin Client) in Windows operating environments
When you attempt to renew the SAS® software license for a SAS 9.2 (TS1M0) installation for client users
(Admin Client) under Windows, and you accept the default location that specifies the
folder-where-SAS-was-installed,
the license is not updated even though it appears that the renewal tool ran successfully.
To verify that the renewal tool did not run successfully, run the following command and compare the expiration date in the SAS log window
with the expiration date in your SAS installation data (SID) file:
proc setinit noalias;
run;
Starting in SAS 9.2 Phase 2 (TS2M0), if you perform the same steps, the renewal tool displays the following error message:
The path shown below appears to be a Client SAS installation.
If you are updating SAS Installation Data for a SAS Client,
you must enter the location of the SAS Client Server in the
field labled "Folder where SAS was installed:".

To renew the license for a client users (Admin Client) image:
- Go to the workstation where the SAS client installation was performed.
- Log in to the local machine with a user ID that has write access to the SAS Software Depot for client users
(Admin Client image) on the Windows remote machine.
- Run the sasrenew.exe file that is located on the local machine, in the default location:
C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\core\sasinst\sasrenew
During step 2 of the renewal process, clear the check box.
- Change the default location of the
folder-where-SAS-was-installed
to the location of the sas.exe file on the SAS Software Depot for client users (Admin Client image) on the Windows remote machine.
This is the
\Products\sasinstall_version-and-operating-system\sas
directory in the Client Users (Admin Client) image.
For example, you might have a directory that looks like the following:
Z:\SAS92_client_users_depot\products\sasinstall_92230_win_en_p0_1\sas
- Use the default SAS configuration location. It should still point to the local C:\ drive of the local workstation machine.
- Click the Renew button to complete the process.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
To renew the SAS license for a SAS 9.2 (TS1M0) client users (Admin Client) installation go to a workstation with an Admin Client image and run sasrenew.exe. On step 2, clear the box and then browse to the location of sas.exe for the Admin Client image on the server machine.
